Yesterday (Saturday) my in-laws came over for a quick social visit with my mum who has been here for the last week. They irritate her and me so we weren’t very social at all. lol
Just as they left about 1/4 to 5 I had a strong contraction. I bustled around doing a few minor things, organised my mum into doing dinner for the kids and managed to get one of my other children through the bath while I was in the shower. Contractions started at 8 minutes apart and over the next hour went down to 3 minutes apart when we called the hospital who told dh to not hesitate in coming in.
I was getting concerned the baby would arrive in our front garden with the next contraction, and I told him he was not going to be born in the car either with the next contraction on the way to the hospital. Dh went through a red light to get to the hospital door as that contraction finished. I hot footed it straight out of the van past emergency to the birthing suites where the midwives were literally rushing out to meet me. lol They had read my file.
I had a really nice young midwife who didn’t leave my side. So glad because it was only about 4 contractions on the bed and bub was born. He broke his waters with the second contraction and then had the third (head out) and fourth (the rest of him out) close together. I am really not doing this again. That was an intense labour of 1 hour and 20 minutes. I am just about totally scared out of having anymore. I don’t like how they go so fast.
He is 8lb 3oz and 49cm (19.25 inch). Not small for me! Boy, his hips felt like another head.
Dh said they had to unloop his cord from his neck but otherwise we have had no difficulties. I only stayed until lunch time to get to see all the people necessary on a Sunday. Glad to be home so I can sleep properly tonight.
Oh, and just in case you are wondering, my others were a six hour labour with very fast progression towards the end, my second was born in an ambulance in rush hour traffic in Brisbane with the same fast progression and 2 hours, then my third did manage to make it into a hospital but was born within minutes of the midwife leaving the room after a quick check up with a labour of 2h15m and my dh had to catch him, buzz the midwives and get out of the way quick as they caught bub3 shooting out. Nope, no more! Four boys is a nice group of little men.

My littlest one arrived at 6-07pm on Saturday 28 June just in time to have one day with his grandma before she left. I bet she would have liked to have spent more time with him but she had to get back to work. Very sad really, that after all these years of working (about 22 years) that mum has to still continue working until she can officially retire in 3 years time. Just dad’s pension wouldn’t be enough to live on.
This little guy is being very easy to deal with, or is it the maturity and experience of being a fourth time mum?!
He sleeps a lot and very easily. We have had 2 nights of the screaming at bed time but baths or homeopathic remedies have pulled them up short. Dh wonders how I have the patience, I guess after 2 you just learn to relax and go with the flow. Sure I get tired and brain dead but I also remember that this isn’t personal and it doesn’t last long.
The big brothers seem to be settling well although we really need to get back into school. They have had way too much TV and Xbox this last 2 weeks. I will be glad when dh goes back to college so I can get on with it.

I am remembering how disruptive babies are and am trying now to get in the habit of doing things as quickly as I can in little bits. Without getting frustrated! I hate not finishing a job properly like all the
dishes done at once but I need to remember how little ones sometimes don’t last long without Mama’s attention so I need to have an attitude of a little is better than none.
The dishes are getting done daily by me in little sessions. I still need to get my eldest doing his part of drying up and putting away faster and more consistently finished. A dawdling issue I have let slide his whole life but won’t anymore.
I am officially 37 weeks this Saturday and I have mine at 38 weeks, 37.5 weeks and 38.5 weeks. I remember being very cranky with heartburn that last week last time. I am really trying to keep my attitude in check this time although it has been very tempting to be cranky as I am having the worst back pain I have had in any of my pregnancies.
So lots of attitude check ups going on here!
Yesterday I relaxed by planning out the next 6 weeks of “baby school” and then the whole next year. Not everyone’s idea of fun but it works for me. lol Typical Type A!
Hopefully having my last midwife appointment today. I am hoping to be holding a baby by the next due appointment. Although not too soon! I still need to deep clean my kitchen floor and unpack bub’s clothes in to the drawers, and get paid again so I can buy some newborn disposable nappies. Oops, may have left some things a bit late.

Boxes, boxes and more boxes April 20, 2008

I have been buying more plastic boxes as budget allows. Yesterday it looked like there finally might be enough boxes to fit all the clothes in. I spread everything out in the lounge, emptied out the removalist box that has been sitting stuffed in a corner of my bedroom and started sorting.
Well, most it is in a box now except a few larger items. In the end I had 17 32L boxes and 3 50L boxes. Admittedly some are not so full, but at least the kids’ mittens, gloves, socks, beanies and scarves are separated from the adults now. I am really hoping that all the cloth nappies I have plus accessories will get me through with this new baby. I don’t really want to use disposables if I can help it.
I have written up all the items for sizes 0000 to 0 and will now just work my way slowly through sizes 1 to 8 one size every couple of days. I am going to make a list up in Excel so I can sort them by long sleeve vs short sleeve and all those other categories. It will make it much easier once I print them out to know what I need or don’t as this baby grows. These pages will be going in my Home Binder and I will probably send a copy to my mum too.
I have also taken the opportunity to ditch any girl clothes (what the ?!?) I had and also any orange items (yuk!) and items that I just won’t dress my kids in like overalls with buttons in the groin or knitted things.
Really I am very happy that it got sorted as far as it did, even if I still have lots left to catalogue. At least now they can go in the garage if I need the space inside the house again and they are protected from the rodents and water.
Nesting is fun when you have money and time. I hope I continue to get useful things done in the 9 or so weeks I have left before this little one arrives.

I guess I haven’t been around much. So if you have given up looking at my blog I can totally understand. I didn’t really start this to get popular or anything anyway. I really just wanted a place to write like in a journal except that I could easily re-read my posts by following the tags. I do come back and re-read them quite a bit and ponder more on what I have posted before.
I am not working at the supermarket any more and that is a whole lot easier on our family life. I am trying to get lots done at home before this baby arrives. I have tidied up a lot of boxes and still have more to go. Next on my list is to sort out all the outgrown clothes I have been carting around for years that aren’t being used fully because I always seem to find them just after the child has moved on to the next size. Today I bought another 6 32L storage boxes and 2 50L storage boxes. That should keep me busy!
I haven’t been doing school with the boys. I really want to get some discipline in that area but have a few other things on my mind at the same time. The whole family could do with some dietary changes to see if some health issues clear up. It will take a lot of guts on my part to have the gumption to stick with the changes I think should be made. Wonder if I have it in me!?
Well, maybe I will post again soon, or maybe not! Need to get on with some food prep for some hungry little boys.
