One of my favourite gift ideas December 25, 2007

I found these a couple of years ago. Although cookie-in-a-jar mixes aren’t real popular in Australia (we aren’t big cookie makers like it seems the Americans are) I did find the jars I made well received as gifts.
I can’t find the gingerbread mix I originally used but this one seems to have a lot of good reviews.
My favourite mix is this one as I even cook it up just for the sake of cooking as it makes such a lovely big batch of biscuits and I really like them warm. I like to substitute pecans for 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips and use a mix of white and dark chocolate chips for the other cup of chocolate chips.
I told a friend at church in Brisbane about these 3 years ago and she said this year they have suddenly taken off with everyone giving them as gifts. lol Seems like I may be ahead of my times.
In Australia I use square jars with a clip-on lid. I like to then tie a big bow around the top and I tend to write the recipe out on the inside of a decorated card and attach it to the ribbon. In future I wonder if attaching the recipe to the jar would be better and covering it with contact to seal it.
I didn’t do these at all this year. No friends to give them to. A lady at work has just moved into her new house though and I thought I may make up the gingerbread mix as I know I have a jar kicking around somewhere and all the ingredients should already be in my shelves. I don’t have any money to buy more gifts this year so hopefully this will be liked.
