My littlest one arrived at 6-07pm on Saturday 28 June just in time to have one day with his grandma before she left. I bet she would have liked to have spent more time with him but she had to get back to work. Very sad really, that after all these years of working (about 22 years) that mum has to still continue working until she can officially retire in 3 years time. Just dad’s pension wouldn’t be enough to live on.

This little guy is being very easy to deal with, or is it the maturity and experience of being a fourth time mum?!

He sleeps a lot and very easily. We have had 2 nights of the screaming at bed time but baths or homeopathic remedies have pulled them up short. Dh wonders how I have the patience, I guess after 2 you just learn to relax and go with the flow. Sure I get tired and brain dead but I also remember that this isn’t personal and it doesn’t last long.

The big brothers seem to be settling well although we really need to get back into school. They have had way too much TV and Xbox this last 2 weeks. I will be glad when dh goes back to college so I can get on with it.

Best wishes,

Babies and attitude checks June 13, 2008

I am remembering how disruptive babies are and am trying now to get in the habit of doing things as quickly as I can in little bits. Without getting frustrated! I hate not finishing a job properly like all the
dishes done at once but I need to remember how little ones sometimes don’t last long without Mama’s attention so I need to have an attitude of a little is better than none.

The dishes are getting done daily by me in little sessions. I still need to get my eldest doing his part of drying up and putting away faster and more consistently finished. A dawdling issue I have let slide his whole life but won’t anymore.

I am officially 37 weeks this Saturday and I have mine at 38 weeks, 37.5 weeks and 38.5 weeks. I remember being very cranky with heartburn that last week last time. I am really trying to keep my attitude in check this time although it has been very tempting to be cranky as I am having the worst back pain I have had in any of my pregnancies.

So lots of attitude check ups going on here!

Yesterday I relaxed by planning out the next 6 weeks of “baby school” and then the whole next year. Not everyone’s idea of fun but it works for me. lol Typical Type A!

Hopefully having my last midwife appointment today. I am hoping to be holding a baby by the next due appointment. Although not too soon! I still need to deep clean my kitchen floor and unpack bub’s clothes in to the drawers, and get paid again so I can buy some newborn disposable nappies. Oops, may have left some things a bit late.

I guess I haven’t been around much. So if you have given up looking at my blog I can totally understand. I didn’t really start this to get popular or anything anyway. I really just wanted a place to write like in a journal except that I could easily re-read my posts by following the tags. I do come back and re-read them quite a bit and ponder more on what I have posted before.

I am not working at the supermarket any more and that is a whole lot easier on our family life. I am trying to get lots done at home before this baby arrives. I have tidied up a lot of boxes and still have more to go. Next on my list is to sort out all the outgrown clothes I have been carting around for years that aren’t being used fully because I always seem to find them just after the child has moved on to the next size. Today I bought another 6 32L storage boxes and 2 50L storage boxes. That should keep me busy!

I haven’t been doing school with the boys. I really want to get some discipline in that area but have a few other things on my mind at the same time. The whole family could do with some dietary changes to see if some health issues clear up. It will take a lot of guts on my part to have the gumption to stick with the changes I think should be made. Wonder if I have it in me!?

Well, maybe I will post again soon, or maybe not! Need to get on with some food prep for some hungry little boys.

Very busy lately February 2, 2008

I will be reducing my hours at the supermarket drastically or quitting altogether next week so we have looked into other sources of income. We have come up with junk mail delivering because the timings are a little more flexible than rostered hours and I can still get meals done and the essential bits of running a household when they suit me.

We took on the junk mail last week while I am still working 15 hours a week and we are still doing the local community paper deliveries also.

After our little camping trip next week (yay!) this is how our weeks will look.

Mon – school boys, pick up junk mail, at night fold it all
Tues – early morning I drop out as much junk as possible in an hour, coming home to a normal day albeit with a bit of a later start, then after school is over and dh is home from college ds1 and I will do 1.5 to 2 hours together of dropping junk mail
Wed – early morning I drop out as much junk as possible in an hour, coming home again for a normal day, then when dh is home from college drop off any remaining junk mail
Thurs – early morning pick up papers from printer, then school as usual etc, fold after lunch and when dh is home he and ds1 will drop out ds1’s area of papers
Fri – school as usual, maybe go out and throw dh’s paper area if he decides to keep it before picking up next load of junk mail after lunch, fold junk mail at night
Sat – early morning I drop out as much junk as possible in an hour, coming home to organise grocery shopping etc then in the afternoon drop with ds1 for 1.5 to 2 hours
Sun – Church in the morning, then finish junk mail in the late afternoon

Dh may look into picking up taxi driving when he can fit it into his college timetable and when it fits in with the junk mail delivering. Taxi driving has a lot of paper work involved and tracking taxes so it isn’t always the most “fun” job to keep track of so it may not seem like such a good idea when we settle down a bit. Have to leave that decision to dh.

Of course this last week and this next week I am still trying to follow the above schedule while fitting in supermarket work and we have been having very hot days. I have been having abdomen pains with all this extra exercise in the heat and have been sleeping really well. It is hard doing all this while four months pregnant but after our holiday the load will be a lot lighter. I just wish dh could do some of the walking.

Well, grocery shopping to organise, food for me and the kids and work this afternoon from 12 to 7pm. Great, a lovely quiet weekend!
